FREIGHT later

The transition period was slow to start when the new nationalized British Railways decided to introduce the first mainline diesels in 1948 with D 10000 & D10001 out of London Euston to Glasgow.

Later in 1955 the whole of the railway infrastructure  was to be modernized along with new rolling stock modern diesel & electric traction.

Our steam trainspotting days in the 60s at Carlisle were to take a drastic change, little did we realize that the B.R  fleet of steam locomotives would be wiped out by December 1968

!956 saw the prototype Deltic on trial. The new diesel in light blue livery  visited Carlisle via the Settle line during 1957. She now rests in the National Railway Museum York.
