KESWICK LINE

Class 5 leaving Keswick.

Although the Keswick line is only 18 miles away from Carlisle, it starts at Penrith station on the W.C.M.L from platform one. I did take some early journeys on the line in the 60s when I stopped at Keswick with the Currock Villa Boys Club. Again my main interest was shooting cine film, so I managed to catch the arrival of the lakes Express portion from London at Keswick Station in August of 1964.  So I have to rely on other people who are supporting the reinstatement of the line, for the  last train ran on the 4th of March 1972 but it was not part of the Beeching axe.

My interest in the closed line has grown since a project to reinstate the line by Cedric Martindale who is the Engineer, he travels to various venues in the area with a sales stand and a audio visual show.

To make the line more viable B.R introduce Derby Light Units, they were the transition form steam from 1954.This 1960s old colour picture is taken at Bassenthwaite Lake.
